India’s First Government Fertilizer Factory

India’s First Government Fertilizer Factory: A Historic Milestone in Agriculture 🌱

🔹 March 2, 1952 – India’s first government-run fertilizer factory was inaugurated by Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru in Sindri, Dhanbad, Jharkhand.
🔹 The factory aimed to make India self-sufficient in fertilizer production, reducing dependency on imports.
🔹 Annual Production: The Sindri plant produced around 3.6 lakh tonnes of fertilizer per year, primarily Ammonium Sulphate and Urea.
🔹 This initiative significantly contributed to India’s agricultural growth, helping farmers increase crop yield.
🔹 However, due to rising costs and financial losses, the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government closed the plant in 2002.

🚜 Impact on Indian Agriculture:
The Sindri fertilizer plant set the foundation for India’s self-reliance in fertilizer production, paving the way for modern agro-industries.
